How often should I tan?
Allowing too much time between visits will cause your tan to fade. You can tan up to once every 15 hours (including in and outdoor UV exposure); however it's recommended that you allow 24 hours in between each session to permit your tan to fully develop. Once you have a base, maintaining your tan will vary from individual to individual based on skin type.

What is Cocktail/Combination Tanning and why should I do it?
A combination of a sunbed tan followed immediately by a sunless session. Sunbed tanning uses UV rays to trigger melanin production, while opening up your pores and allowing the sunless spray solution to penetrate your skin. This produces an even darker, deeper and longer-lasting tan.

How can I extend the length of my tan?
Keep your skin healthy by moisturizing constantly. Moisturizers should be applied after each shower, after tanning, and any time during the day you feel your skin is dry. Using a specially formulated tanning moisturizer will help replenish vitamins and nutrients, keeping your skin smooth and looking younger while helping you maintain a deep dark tan. Properly moisturized skin tans faster, darker and stays tanned longer.  Consult with one of our tanning consultants to find the right product for you.

Should I use a "specially designed" Tanning Lotion?
Yes! Specially formulated tanning lotions are enriched with nutrients, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial ingredients to help get you tan FAST. Replenishing the skins moisture is essential for proper skin care and to help achieve a healthier-looking, longer-lasting tan. Hydrated skin tans faster, darker, and retains a tan longer. The most important reason for using a tanning lotion is that it replaces the depleted moisture that your loses during the tanning process. Dry skin reflects UV light, so if you are not using an indoor tanning lotion, you can be wasting up to 50% of your tanning session.

Can I use outdoor lotion in the tanning beds?
NO!Outdoor tanning lotions are not recommended for indoor use, as they can cause a film on the acrylic and will inhibit the tanning process.

What is the best lotion?
It depends; the best lotion for you may not be the best lotion for someone else. There are many variables to take into consideration, such as: skin type, tanning experience, oily skin, dry skin, and the type of tanning lamps and tanning bed used. Please speak with a staff member who will best be able to advise you according to your needs and expectations.

Is a cheap “drugstore” lotion the same as a specially designed tanning moisturizer?
NO! Our lotions are specially formulated and engineered specifically for the indoor tanning industry. They contain high end ingredients that include active vitamins, minerals and nutrients to keep the skin as healthy and moisturized as possible. Cheap store brands do not contain essential ingredients and may actually contain alcohol, which will dry the skin and hinder the tanning process.

Can I save money by purchasing tanning lotion online?
Buyers should beware of companies selling online. Many products online have been discovered to be counterfeits and may contain ingredients that can potentially harm you. Endless Summer purchases all of our tanning products directly from the manufacturer insuring the highest possible quality for our customers.

What is a bronzer and why is it beneficial in a tanning lotion?
Using lotions that contain a bronzer is a way to get better results from your tanning experience and to greatly increase the length of your tan.

What are the three main types of bronzers and what do they do?
1. DHA Bronzers. These do not need any light to produce a tan. DHA bronzers are known as self-tanners. These bronzers work by reacting with certain proteins on the surface layer of the skin. Some of our lotion products contain low levels of DHA bronzers, which can help extend your tan several days.
2. Cosmetic Bronzers. Cosmetic bronzers give you immediate results, allowing you to achieve a dark brown color directly after tanning.
3. Low-Maintenance Bronzers. Low maintenance bronzers reduce staining and streaking. Low maintenance bronzers do not give immediate results but they keep your tan looking golden

What is a Tingle lotion and what does it do?
Tingle is an ingredient added to lotion, usually niacin or Vitamin B that can help clients achieve quicker and darker results than if they just used a regular lotion. The ingredients in a tingle lotion increase the microcirculation and oxidation of blood in the surface layers of the skin. Blood also carries melanin to the surface of the skin. Since your skin needs oxygen to tan and the activation of melanin is what is needed to maximize that tan, the more melanin at the surface of the skin, the darker you will get. The niacin causes a slight flushing effect at the surface layer of the skin causing you to get a slight to moderate “tingle” or warming sensation. This feeling is harmless and will dissipate soon after your session is over.

How can I stop the tingle action on the skin?
Taking a shower with "cool" water and mild soap will help ease the tingle. Never use warm or hot water as this will open up the pores and cause an even greater, intense tingle sensation.

How long does it take to get a tan?

To build a base tan most people need 3-5 sessions to get the desired color. If you need an instant tan, you should consider Spray Tanning in our VersaSpa Pro Sunless Booth or for the fastest tan, a combination of "Cocktail Tanning" in our tanning beds and incorporate a Spray Tan.

How long can my tanning session be on my first visit?
Your first session length will depend upon your skin tone and type. Your tanning professional will ask you to fill out a skin analysis form to help determine your skin type. Also taken into consideration is how long it has been since you last tanned in or outdoors

What should I wear when tanning indoors?
You can tan in your bathing suit, underwear, semi-nude or nude. Please be aware of exposing sensitive body parts that are not normally exposed to light. It is highly recommended that sensitive body parts be gradually exposed to prevent overexposure.

Do I have to wear eye protection while tanning?
Yes! Eyewear protection is required by law. Your eyelids aren't thick enough to provide protection and do not effectively block light while tanning. Approved eye protection is required to ensure you won't have any ill effects such as reduced color vision or night blindness.  We do provided eye wear to each client as well as offer eye wear for purchase.

Can I tan more than once in one day?
No! To get an "instant" tan you should consider using our VersaSpa Pro Sunless Booth. In just seconds you can have the natural-looking color you want. The FDA prohibits tanning more frequently than once per 15 hours because you could unintentionally sun burn yourself. There is no limitation for spray booth tans.

What precautions should I take if I am new to indoor tanning?
1. Don't try to rush your tan. A tan should be obtained gradually.
2. Gradually increase your exposure times, 1 to 2 minutes at a time.
3. Consult your physician if you are taking any medication. Some medication can cause extra sensitivity to the UV light, causing overexposure.
4. Consult your physician if you have any type of skin irritation or other condition.
5. Always wear protective eyewear!! Ultraviolet light will penetrate the eyelids.

When Should I NOT Tan?
1. When you are taking photosensitizing medication it is not recommended to tan outdoors or indoors. If you aren't sure, ask your doctor, or ask one of our Tanning Consultant  to see a list of these medications, which can greatly increase the risk of overexposure.
2. You should also avoid tanning if you are pregnant, due to the heat, unless your doctor approves it. The concern is that tanning while pregnant may tend to increase body temperature which may be harmful to the unborn baby. You can consider using our VersaSpa Pro Sunless Booth.  Pregnant mothers should consult their physicians before considering sunless tanning.

How long will my tan last?
Your tan should last between five to seven days, depending on your skin type. Just like a tan from the sun, it will gradually fade as your skin exfoliates. It also depends on how hydrated your skin is.

Should I shower after a tanning session?
The tanning process actually continues for a period of time after a tanning session. Taking a shower will remove the mantel acid from your skin and slow down or stop this continued tanning process. It is recommended you not shower for 2 hours after your tanning session or 1 hour before.

Why can’t I get any darker? What is a tanning plateau?
Your skin becomes thicker as your tanning progresses which makes it difficult for UV light to penetrate the upper layers of skin. Some people after tanning for a while will reach a point where there skin does not seem to become any darker; this is known as the tanning plateau. The Tanning Plateau can be overcome by applying more moisturizer and using a range of tanning equipment with varying UVB/UVA ratios to stimulate different levels within the skin. Some tanners need to step down a level for a few tans to see results.

Why don’t my legs and face tan as well as the rest of my body and how what is a solution?
The skin on your legs and face is thicker than other parts of your body and when you shave your legs and face you are mechanically exfoliating the uppermost skin cells and part of your tan. Specially designed products are available to increase the tan on your legs and face. Consult with one of our associate to find the best product for you.

Will tanning affect my tattoo?
Yes! Tattoos should be covered with a strong sun block as UV light can cause colors to fade. Tattoo protectors are available for preserving the life of your tattoo. Ask one of our tanning associates for the right product for you

Can a sunburn fade into a tan?
Many people FALSELY assume that sunburns will eventually "fade" into tans. A sunburn is an injury on top of your tanned skin and is associated with permanent skin damage. That's why it hurts. Don’t burn yourself intentionally thinking that it will result in a tan.

What are pressure points and how do I get rid of them?
Pressure points are areas of the body where the most amount of pressure is placed when reclining in a tanning bed. The blood flow is constricted in those areas and that’s why they don't seem to tan. They are usually found on the shoulder blades, tailbone and elbow area. Lifting yourself up and off the acrylic several times during your tanning session will allow oxygen to get at that skin. Within a few tanning sessions, you should see them disappear.
Should I use a lip balm?
Yes. Your lips do not produce melanin and as a result do not tan. However, UV light from the sun or sun bed will cause your lips to dry. When tanning, always keep your lips moist with a SPF lip balm. Ask one of our tanning associates for the right product for you
